Welcome to Honors American Lit. In addition to your regular summer reading, you'll be reading Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad. Whitehead mixes real history with an imagined history. The fantastical elements can be confusing, so if you're wondering what's real and what isn't, look it up!
You'll be taking notes as you read. These notes will serve as plot and character reminders to you during discussions and as a place to question and reflect on the text. You may use your notes on any work we do in class on the book.
Be sure to bring a copy of the book with you to school in the fall. (Checking it out from the library is a great idea, just be sure to have your copy with you when you come.)
